This textbook has been designed to meet the needs of B.Sc. Fourth Semester students of Physics as per Common Minimum Syllabus prescribed for Ranchi University and other Universities and Colleges under the recommended National Education Policy 2020 in Jharkhand.

The Theory section is divided into two parts. First Part explores mathematical concepts foundational to physics. Starting with Fourier Series, it delves into complex areas such as the Frobenius Method and Integral Transforms. Topics like Laplace Transforms and Partial Differential Equations further provide students with analytical techniques essential for problem-solving in physics. Second Part is dedicated to Thermal and Statistical Physics. Students will begin with the Laws of Thermodynamics, followed by the study of Thermodynamic Potentials and Maxwell's Thermodynamic Relations. This section includes an in-depth analysis of Transport Phenomena and Classical and Quantum Statistics, which lay the groundwork for understanding phenomena such as Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac statistics.

The Practical section supplements theoretical knowledge with hands-on experiments. Starting with the Nth Roots of Unity and Square Roots of Complex Numbers, students will conduct experiments related to Laplace Transform Applications in circuit analysis, Thermal Conductivity using Searle's Apparatus and Lee's Disc Method, and temperature measurement with a Platinum Resistance Thermometer. The practicals conclude in the measurement of Thermo-EMF using a Thermo-Couple.

  • This textbook comprehensively covers the subject Mathematical, Thermal & Statistical Physics.
  • More than 400 figures and solved examples for easy understanding of concepts
  • More than 400 questions (short- and long-answer) strengthen the well-explained theoretical concepts.
