This textbook has been designed to meet the requirements of B.Sc. Second Semester students of Botany for all Maharashtra State Universities and Colleges under the recommended National Education Policy 2020. It comprehensively covers the theoretical and practical aspect of the papers, namely, Spermatophyte: Gymnosperms and Angiosperm Morphology and Cell Biology and Genetics.

The theory part of paper 3 introduces the students to develop an understanding of vegetative and reproductive morphology of Gymnosperms and Angiosperms. It also covers the structure and function of the carpel and fruit, along with the classification of different types of fruits.

Paper 4 explores the structure and functions of fundamental components of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, including macromolecules, membranes and organelles. It also discusses cell division, covering the cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis. The Genetics section provides a strong foundation in genetic principles, focusing on Mendelian inheritance and its variations, while also addressing chromosomal abnormalities, genetic disorders and mutations.

Relevant experiments corresponding to the theoretical topics and examples have been presented systematically to help students achieve sound conceptual understanding and learn experimental procedures.

  1. Relevant and well-labelled diagrams have been provided for easy understanding of the concepts
  2. Engaging unit-end exercises have been provided for practice
  3. Collection of experiments to stimulate interest and aid in learning and memorising the practical aspect of the subject
