He is currently Head, University Department of Chemistry, S.K.M. University, Dumka (Jharkhand). He has a teaching experience of more than 20 years at the postgraduate level. He has been a recipient of State Merit Scholarship in his university years. He has received meritorial fellowship of International Society for Ecological Communications (Argentina) in 2009. He has also been an active researcher.
Dr. Ali did his M.Sc. in Chemistry in 1985 and Ph.D in the field of Stability of Complex Compounds in 1992 from L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga. He has done pioneering work in the field of Coordination Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry especially in the field of Water Pollution. Dr. Ali has successfully guided more than a dozen research scholars, and has to his credit publication of several research articles and reviews published in National and International Journals of repute. He is a Member of the Editorial Board of "Journal of Hematology and Ecotoxicology". He has also been frequently appointed by different Universities as an expert to conduct Ph.D viva-voce. Dr. Ali was the convener of an UGC-sponsored two-day National Seminar under the auspices of University Department of Chemistry, S.K.M. University, Dumka in 2011. He has edited and published a book titled "Water Pollution and its Recent Challenges" in 2012.
Dr. Ali has also been invited by different universities to deliver key-note lectures on various topics and has chaired a number of sessions in seminars, symposia and conferences at national and international levels. Dr. Ali has been elected General Secretary of Service Teachers' Association of S.K.M. University (SKMUSTA), Dumka, twice.
